I was walking down the road yesterday, and I realised that as a locksmith, I see doors and locks differently. I will catch a glimpse of the doors on either side of the road as I pass them and the locks they have installed. It is also interesting to do this in other countries, for instance whilst on holiday near Florence in Italy I noticed that most homes have euro cylinders installed without any mortice locks, whereas here in the UK we have a combination of rim cylinders (the round locks), euro cylinders and mortice locks (usually the lower lock.) Of course, I look at locks and think to myself, I wonder how easy or how much of a challenge it would be to pick that lock/padlock.
Guess it’s one of the curiosities that comes with loving what you do.
